What to Read Next, Based on Your Favorite Christmas Movie.

We are officially in full Christmas mode here at the Fulton Public Library. It’s the perfect time of year to get cozy on the couch to watch all your favorite holiday movies. But when the popcorn bowl is empty and you’ve run out of things to watch, what do you do? Grab a book, of course! While not all of these books are centered around the holidays, we’ve selected those that capture the same essence as some of the most popular holiday films.

  1. It’s a Wonderful LifeThe Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwabb

It’s a Wonderful Life is a great example of a movie with the Christmas message of the profound impact we can have on others, often without realizing it. In The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, we follow a woman who struck an unusual deal, granting her eternal life but at the cost of never being remembered. Over time, she discovers her ability to shape the world through art. Similar to the beloved holiday classic, it’s a captivating, otherworldly exploration of the far-reaching effects of our actions.

2. The Princess Switch – The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox

Much like The Princess Switch, The Holiday Swap is a feel-good, holiday-themed romantic comedy about identical twins who switch lives in the days leading up to Christmas. If you are a fan of light-hearted Hallmark-style movies, this book might be for you.

3. The Family StoneSeven Days of Us by Francesca Hornak

The Family Stone and Seven Days of Us are both perfect examples of long-held family tensions coming to light when everyone is together for the holidays. If you like the humor, heart-warming moments, and the overall messy family dynamic of The Family Stone, you might like Seven Days of Us

4. The Nutcracker and the Four RealmsThe Clockwork Girl by Anna Mazzola

Similarly to The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, The Clockwork Girl is a profoundly atmospheric and creatively crafted period drama. Transporting its readers to the enchanting streets of 1750 Paris, this tale caters to those with an appreciation for the eerie, mystical, and occasionally unsettling elements.

5. Love ActuallyMy True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories

What’s better than one epic love tale? Well, how about twelve of them, neatly wrapped in a festive package – just like Love Actually! My True Love Gave To Me brings you a dozen delightful YA short stories written by multiple authors, making it a must-read for all the holiday romance enthusiasts!
